June 16 2013 is one of the most memorable days for Anglican priest Reverend MacDonald Sembereka.

On this day, Sembereka was conferred with the honour of Canon of St Pethers Cathedral in Likoma by Bishop Fanuel Magangani of the Anglican Diocese of the Northern Malawi.

The honour of canon is a recognition within the ecclesiastical community of one’s contribution in the life of the church and offer of a senior advisor to the bishop.

Sembereka, who is currently working at the State House as special advisor to President Joyce Banda, said he was humbled by the honour.

“I am now one of the few to hold a seat in the cathedral of the St. Peters. This recognition is humbling and to me all honour and glory be to God forever,” said Sembereka.

He said he would be joining a number of clergymen who hold the honour and have been in the ministry for some time.

“These are priests who have made considerable contributions to the ministry of the church,” said Sembereka.
